Christmas music to inspire and bless

There's a little-known Christmas song, entitled simply Hallelujah, which announces the birth of Christ. It was written and recorded by popular Australian musician, Darlene Zschech, and it featured on the Hillsong double Christmas album in 1999. Click on this link to hear the audio version of this gorgeous song. The lyrics are below.

“He is here
The Savior has been born
The one we've waited for
Surrounded by our praises

He is here
The promise of the king
To You our lives we bring
Let your glory be revealed

Joy to the World
Peace to all who love Him
The savior has been born
And all the heavens smile

Glory to God
We bring an offering to You
Join with all the angels
Singing Hallelujah”

Talking of fine Christmas music, Prophecy Today has come up with a few other striking versions of seasonal tunes that you may or may not be familiar with.

Take the all-time favourite carol, Silent Night. A highly popular version of this classic Christmas song is one rendered by three American country singers, Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire in live concert several years ago. It has been watched over 33 million times on YouTube. Listen here.

For a much more stripped-down folksy version of the same song, Silent Night - but every bit as beautiful – click here to hear Canadian Christian troubadour, Bruce Cockburn’s inimitable take.

Talking of stripped-down music, just as that ‘first Christmas’ was simple and uncluttered, so, perhaps should ours be! And so, too, is this fine little-known gem, written by unfamiliar writers, and sung here by an unfamiliar Christian folk singer, though well known in her native Shetland. This is ‘Mary’s Lullaby’ sung by Freda Leask.

Mary the mother of Jesus features in another Christmas song highly favoured within some among the PT office team (not least Karen and Jacqueline!). ‘Mary Did You Know?’ was written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Green, of Gaither Music fame. This rendition by Clay Aiken has been viewed more than 3 million times.

With their wealth of musical aptitude, a group of Scottish musicians (well-known to this compiler) have done great justice to the adorational beauty, 'O, Holy Night'. This upbeat, rootsy Celtic Worship interpretation was released just last week. Listen here.

If your musical taste veers more towards classical, this moving rendition of ‘O Come, o come Emmanuel’ by the Piano Guys is sure to inspire and transport you.

From the sublime ….. to the truly magical! This fun version of White Christmas was first recorded by The Drifters way back in 1954. Brought to animated life on YouTube has ensured this delectable harmonic version has remained popular well into the 21st century. Enjoy.

HAVE A VERY BLESSED CHRISTMAS!
