TV anchor walks as Duchess fires verbal bullets at Royal Family

The censoring of TV personality (and former Daily Mirror editor) Piers Morgan for refusing to believe aspects of Meghan Markle’s accusations against the Royal Family is beyond belief.

The colourful Good Morning Britain anchor walked out of his job after coming under the pressure imposed by 41,000 complaints about his criticism of the Duchess of Sussex in her much-heralded interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Freedom of speech at risk

Any suggestion that we can still boast of enshrining freedom of speech as an integral part of our democracy is surely as lame as some of the insults aimed at the monarchy by someone who took flight so soon after being welcomed by them.

It’s a bit rich that journalists and others are not allowed to criticise someone who spares no lethal bullets for those she claims have mistreated her.

With Morgan shot down in a re-run of the Spanish Inquisition for those who refuse to play the politically correct line, we are surely witnessing manipulation on a global scale, with even viewers in faraway Australia taken in by one-sided, unchallenged claims. It was an extreme example of shoddy journalism that failed to ask the obvious questions posed by apparently conflicting statements.

We are surely witnessing manipulation on a global scale.

But it ticks all the woke boxes with implicit accusations of royal racism along with claims of suicide thoughts in the midst of mental health anguish.

Now I have no wish to downplay the seriousness of mental ill-health, which has the potential to be devastating for sufferers and their families. I particularly worry for young people for whom this is worsening. Meghan may very well have experienced mental distress – being a royal is a unique job with many pressures to which not all are suited.

But when will we ‘woke’ up to the madness of this Cultural Marxism that brooks no dissent?

Only certain opinions permitted

We are not allowed to disbelieve – except when it comes to the thorny issue of Christian faith. We are only allowed to believe the unbelievable – that our intricate biological design happened by chance, for example, and that we all evolved from some sort of primordial soup! Yuk!

Yes, it seems we are being forced to accept totally unacceptable behaviour – publicly maligning the monarchy – to suit the liberal secular-humanist agenda. You couldn’t make it up. And all this while the Palace has taken the unusual step of investigating allegations of Meghan having bullied staff members.

Where the truth lies is difficult to tell, and probably better left to the Almighty. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ…” (2 Cor 5:10)

The problem with truth these days is that it is no longer a matter of absolutes that can be measured by the Ten Commandments and other biblical principles, but has instead come down to personal choice which allows us to invent our own version of it. And who’s to say whether it’s true or false, except when it crosses woke boundaries?

The problem with truth these days is that it is no longer a matter of absolutes that can be measured by the Ten Commandments and other biblical principles, but has instead come down to personal choice which allows us to invent our own version of it.

I am not pointing a finger one way or the other, but merely asking whether what we are hearing is true or false, or, most likely, a bit of both? The ninth of the Ten Commandments is that “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour” (Exodus 20:16).

Dangers of lying

That lying is lethal is underscored by the shocking revelation of the French schoolgirl whose statements about her teacher showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in class sparked a deadly chain of events that led to his beheading last October by a teenage Chechen immigrant.1

The girl, who cannot be named because she is underage, has now admitted lying to her father about the actions of her teacher, Samuel Paty, in an apparent attempt to cover up the real reason for her suspension from school – her bad behaviour.

She has now been charged with slander while her father, who had filed a legal complaint against Paty before launching a poisonous social media campaign against him, has been arrested on suspicion of being complicit in a terrorist killing.

The entire tragic sequence of events had arisen out of ‘free speech’ lessons the teacher had conducted for years.

Live for truth

Free speech – one of the most cherished legacies of Christian civilisation – is being sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. It’s time we returned to God’s absolute truth, and ditched the woke agenda.

I’ll finish with the lovely Robin Mark song, which begins:

"When it’s all been said and done,
There is just one thing that matters,
Did I do my best to live for truth?
Did I live my life for you?”

Referring, of course, to our Lord Jesus Christ, who said: “I am the way, the truth and the life; no-one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
