Society & Politics

  • LGBT groups pressure removal of Franklin Graham ads: Social media campaigning has led to adverts for Franklin Graham’s upcoming outreach events being removed from Blackpool buses. Read more here.
  • Priest loses chaplaincy role after Pride comment: A Catholic priest has been stripped of his role as chaplain at Glasglow’s Caledonian University after calling the city’s Pride event a “gross offence to God”. Read more here.
  • Ethics council says designer babies “morally acceptable”: According to the Nuffield Council of Bioethics, genome editing to ‘enhance’ a baby’s DNA is now ethically permissible. Read more here.
  • Lesbians victims of Stonewall’s own oppression: An open letter has been sent from 130 lesbian campaigners to LGBT charity Stonewall, criticising its ‘single-minded’ support for trans ideology. Stonewall chief Ruth Hunt dismissed the letter, saying those with contrary views had "no place" at London’s Pride march. Read more here.

  • Syrian refugees in Lebanon coming to Jesus: A Christian ministry in Lebanon has said that “many Muslims” are coming to know Christ, despite having lost everything in the Syrian civil war. Read more here.

Israel & Middle East

  • Gaza pushes Israel to the brink of war: Rocket barrages and a continuing flow of incendiary kites have prompted an IDF drill in preparation for a possible operation inside Gaza. International warnings to Hamas seem to have made no difference, and a conflict this summer is looking increasingly likely. Read more here.
  • Israel’s Jewishness enshrined into law: A controversial bill was passed in the Knesset this week enshrining into ‘basic’ (i.e. quasi-constitutional) law that Israel is the national home of the Jewish people, with Jerusalem as its capital and Hebrew as its official language. Read more here.
  • Israel to invest NIS 5 billion in earthquake preparation: A package of investment was agreed earlier this week that will upgrade the country’s preparedness for a big quake, starting next year. Read more here.
  • Assad to regain territory near Golan: Under a new deal brokered by Russia, the rebels in Syria’s frontier with Israel will surrender to the Assad regime. However, Israeli politicians have been hard at work in diplomatic meetings this week, arranging for the continued protection of their border and the removal of any Iranian forces nearby.
