- Short time left to respond to divorce consultation: With the Government seeking to introduce ‘no-fault’ divorce, undermining marriage and family life even further in Britain, it is vital that Christians make their voices heard. - 130,000 children homeless this Christmas: The homelessness charity Shelter has forecasted this figure, which has been affirmed by Christian charity Nicodemus, and includes figures for children spending the season in hostels, B&Bs and emergency council accommodation. Read more here.
- Sacked Christian magistrate given permission to appeal: Richard Page, who lost his job in 2016 for saying that children are best raised by a father and a mother, is taking his case against the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to the Employment Appeal Tribunal. Read more here.
World Scene
- US lashes out over international treaty violations: Speaking in Brussels, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused China, Iran, Russia and others this week of violating numerous international treaties. He has given Russia a two-month ultimatum to address alleged violations of a 1987 anti-nuclear pact. Pompeo also questioned the functionality of many global institutions such as the UN, EU, IMF and World Bank, saying that the post-war ‘liberal order’ has ‘failed’. Read more here.
- UNGA votes against condemning Hamas: The resolution on Thursday received unprecedented support from 87 countries (including Britain), but still failed to gain the two-thirds majority required to pass. It would have been the first UN General Assembly resolution to condemn Hamas. Read more here.
- African countries suspend Marie Stopes: Kenya and Niger have both moved to ban the British abortion provider on the grounds that it has been providing abortions illegally. Read more here and here.
- Abortion clinics in US closing rapidly: The number in the country has gone down by nearly 28% since 2012. Read more here. The number of abortions in the USA have reached a decade low, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read more here.
- Twitter cracks down on transgender opposition: Any Twitter user found referring to a transgender person using their birth gender/pronoun/name rather than their preferred gender/pronoun/name now faces a ban from the social media site. Read more here.
Israel & Middle East
- Tensions escalate on Israel’s northern border: On Tuesday the IDF launched ‘Operation Northern Shield’ to destroy Hezbollah terror tunnels on the Lebanon border. So far, three tunnels have been found into Israeli territory, which if proven to be Hezbollah, would constitute an act of war. Read more here and here. There are concerns that the situation may escalate into the next Lebanese war.
- Iran missile testing to be weighed at UN: The US has called for Europe to impose sanctions on Iran, after Iran reportedly tested a medium-range ballistic missile last week that could hit the Middle East or even Europe. Read more here and here.
