  • Richard Dawkins targets children with new books: Two new books, one aimed at children and the other at teens, have drawn criticism from Christians for ‘evangelising’ young people with atheism. Read more here.
  • Corbyn’s team in stalemate with Jewish community: Further attempts to organise talks have failed, while in-fighting within Labour continues. Last week, in a Guardian article, Corbyn declared willingness to accept all but one half of one point in the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism. CUFI says this shows he rejects Israel’s right to exist.   • Scottish schools to teach children to decide their own gender: Draft plans from the Scottish Government reveal the intention to teach children as young as five that gender is not something they were born into, but something they can decide on for themselves. Read more here.

Church Issues

  • Victories for mistreated British Christians: Complaints against a former mayor from County Durham based on his biblical views about gender have been formally dismissed. Read more here. Restrictions placed on Sarah Kuteh, a Kent nurse who was sacked for giving a Bible to a patient and then prevented from further practising, have been lifted. Read more here.
  • Huge crackdown on believers in China: The authorities are shutting down house churches, seizing Bibles, raiding meetings and interrogating believers. Other religions are also being targeted in what is feared to be the biggest crackdown on religious freedom for decades. Read more here.

World Scene

  • Argentina rejects bill to legalise abortion: The bill was overturned by 38 votes to 31 amidst great public jubilation, and despite considerable international pressure as well as violent behaviour from pro-abortion activists. Read more here and here.
  • US pledges to end practice of influencing other nations’ abortion laws: The Trump administration has announced that it intends to end the Obama-era practice of using foreign aid as leverage to pressure other countries to liberalise their laws on abortion and homosexuality. Read more here.

Israel & Middle East

  • Maoris apologise to Israel: At the end of last month, in a remarkable ‘ceremony of apology’, the indigenous people of New Zealand sought forgiveness for standing against Israel at the UN. Read more here.
  • Jared Kushner pushing to close UNWRA: The move would also include the removal of international refugee status from millions of Palestinians who are not themselves refugees but descendants of refugees. Read more here.
  • Gaza border escalation: A barrage of rockets and mortar shells were fired from Gaza into Israel on Wednesday night, causing injuries and trauma and prompting an IDF retaliation. Read more here. The exchange is the worst since the 2014 Gaza War. A fragile truce is holding at the time of this publication, but war is still an imminent possibility. Read more here and here.
