  • Labour’s anti-Semitism woes continue: A Labour councillor was suspended this week for anti-Semitic social media posts. He has not yet apologised. Labour NEC member Pete Willsman has been dropped by Momentum for comments made last month. Evidence is being unearthed of both historic and recent instances of Labour anti-Semitism (see here and here).
  • Pro-life group banned from Lambeth Country Show: ‘Life’ charity had been approved as an official exhibitor but was ousted on the second day of the show, for reportedly contravening the local council’s ‘values’. Read more here.

Church Issues

  • Iranian Christians speak out about persecution: Two Iranian women who were imprisoned and tortured for their faith have spoken to a Washington conference about their experiences and how the Lord Jesus sustained them. Read more here.
  • LGBT Christian conference causes concern: The US conference last week proposes to ‘support, encourage and empower’ LGBT Christians while affirming a biblical view of marriage and sexuality, causing some church leaders to voice concern that a ‘halfway house’ is ‘inherently unstable’. World Scene

  • Dutch euthanasia doctor may face criminal charges: The medic administered a lethal injection to a 74-year-old dementia patient against her will. Commentators say the case highlights the slippery slope countries find themselves on when they legalise assisted suicide. Read more here. The news comes as the UK Supreme Court removes an important legal safeguard protecting patients with brain damage.
  • Trump’s offer of unconditional talks with Iran rebutted: The offer seems to have caught the Iranian regime off-guard. Civil unrest in Iran is growing as the Iranian currency is plunging ahead of US sanctions due to restart next week. Read more here and here.
  • US Senate passes defence bill with funding for Israel: The enormous $716 bn budget includes $550 million for boosting Israel’s defences against Hamas and Hezbollah. Read more here. The Trump administration has also released some $61 million to the Palestinian Authority, mainly to fund PA/Israeli security co-operation.

Israel & Middle East

  • Russia promises to keep Iranians away from Israel’s border: The promise that Iranian troops and heavy weapons have been moved at least 85km away from the Israeli Golan Heights comes with the admission that Russia will not and cannot oust Iran completely from Syria. Read more here and here.
  • Seven ISIS terrorists killed inside Golan Heights: The armed group had made their way 650 feet inside Israeli territory before being killed in an air strike by the IAF. Rifles and explosives were recovered from the scene. Read more here.
  • Violence continues at the Gaza border: 7,000 people rioted at the Gaza border last Friday, while 29 fires were started on Tuesday alone by Palestinian incendiary devices. There have been calls for further violence from Hamas.
