  • Legal challenge to DIY abortions fails: Christian Concern’s legal team challenged the Government this week on its decision to allow women to abort their babies at home during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government’s decision was upheld. Read more here.
  • Opt-out organ donation comes into force: A new system for organ donation is now in force, whereby it will be presumed that adults give consent unless they specifically state otherwise. Read more here.
  • Shropshire Council drops trans guidelines: Shropshire has become the latest county, following Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, to drop controversial guidelines on transgenderism for schools and colleges. Read more here.
  • UK-held Dead Sea Scrolls not blank as thought: Dead Sea Scroll fragments held by Manchester University but thought to be blank have been discovered to contain Hebrew writing after all. Read more here.

Church Issues

  • Ravi Zacharias dies: The influential evangelist and apologist passed away earlier this week, aged 74, after a brief battle with cancer. Read more here and here.
  • Bible boxes see encouraging response: Plastic boxes placed outside homes and churches containing Bibles, Gospels and gospel tracts are proving a useful way to spread the hope of the Lord Jesus Christ in local communities during the pandemic. A brainchild of the Open-Air Mission, the idea has already seen an encouraging response. Why not set one up yourself?

World Scene

  • India and Bangladesh hit by ‘super cyclone’: The worst cyclone in decades has hit densely populated regions in South Asia this week. There are fears that crowded storm shelters could worsen the spread of coronavirus. Read more here. In the western hemisphere, meteorologists are predicting a potentially record-breaking hurricane season, as conditions develop like those in 2005, which saw Hurricane Katrina. Read more here.
  • US calls out UN abortion agenda: An in unprecedented letter, the US Agency for International Development told the UN Secretary General to stop promoting abortion as ‘essential’ humanitarian aid during the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more here.

Israel & Middle East

  • Will Israel proceed with annexation? Experts think that Israel’s new Government will proceed to apply Israeli law to parts of Judea and Samaria, despite international outcry from the EU, the presumptive US Democratic nominee Joe Biden, the UN, Russia and the Vatican. Whilst this chorus of disapproval has also been joined by the Palestinian Authority, Melanie Phillips notes that the tide is gradually turning against the Palestinian cause.
  • UAE lands first commercial plane in Tel Aviv: Signifying warming relations between the two countries, the UAE agreed to send a shipment of aid to the Palestinians via Israel, its first direct commercial flight to the latter. The aid has since been rejected by the Palestinian Authority. Read more here.
