Society & Politics

  • Claims of grave miscarriage of justice for health. An NHS nurse of over twenty years’ experience and who worked in a large NHS hospital throughout most of the pandemic (from February through September) has made a number of revealing claims in a recent lengthy interview, among them that she has never had so little to do. Church Issues

  • Petition for National Day of Prayer. Evangelist, David Hathaway, has set up a petition calling the Prime Minister to call a National Day of Prayer for the nation, not least in light of the coronavirus epidemic that has overtaken the nation. To facilitate this, the Petition calls for churches to be open for prayer and worship without restriction for this specific and important day. Read more and sign the Petition here
  • Reprimand over reciting Lord’s Prayer in church. It appears that not only are believers barred from worshipping the Lord in song during services in churches, but they may also be barred from praying. A minister leading a funeral service has been accused of breaking Covid-19 restrictions by encouraging mourners to recite the Lord's Prayer. Read more here.
  • Salvation Army helps UK slavery survivors. Record numbers of UK nationals have been helped by the Salvation Army after escaping from modern forms of slavery, including forced labour, coerced begging and sexual exploitation. The largest proportion of victims have come from Albania. Read more here.

World Scene

  • WHO admits lockdowns can have appalling consequences. Dr David Nabarro, the World Health Organisation’s Special Envoy on Covid-19, has urged world leaders to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” against the coronavirus amid fears they lead to as many as 100 million deaths.   • 300 killed in renewed Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. The long-disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, bordering Armenia and Azerbaijan, and fiercely claimed by both countries, has seen the most serious escalation in conflict since 2016, with over 300 soldiers and civilians killed, and hundreds more wounded on both sides.   • Laos believers driven out of home village. A group of Christians in Laos, which borders Thailand, are being expelled from their village for refusing to renounce their faith, despite the Government's recent commitment to honouring laws designed for the “protection and awareness” of the Christian community.
