The Absolute Gospel Company, based in Tonbridge, Kent, has been producing Bible-based musicals for over 30 years, often dealing with prophetic subjects and underlining the importance of the Jewish people in the purposes of God.

The main writers and composers are husband-and-wife team Roy and Jenny Etherton, who are backed up by several gifted local musicians and performers. Roy also takes responsibility for producing and directing the musicals.

Rooted in the Word

Their latest venture is called ‘The King is Coming’. As expected from a company which also runs a Bible school dedicated to studying Scripture in greater depth, its storyline is firmly rooted in the word of God. Starting with Creation and the Fall, we are taken through the story of redemption and the ultimate return of our Saviour-King.

The two-hour stage version was performed last October in Rochester Cathedral following on from presentations at various venues in 2019. The CD soundtrack contains the main musical numbers - 16 tracks in all, totalling about 70 minutes. Plans are under way to take the musical to Israel in 2022.

The music is full of good melodic content, expertly arranged and well recorded. As well as soloists it features a 30+ strong inter-denominational choir. Two of the tracks are instrumentals, one of which (‘Shekinah’) is particularly moving.

The Absolute Gospel Company has built up a large back-catalogue of productions and soundtracks that is well worth exploring. In particular I would recommend ‘Jerusalem: A Musical History’. One of the Ethertons’ earliest productions, it tells the story of this most famous of cities through spoken word and song. This CD will both inform you and enthral you with its beautiful melodies and vocal performances.

Also worth a mention is a more recent CD called ‘The Symphony of Light’. Here is a delightful compilation album containing incidental orchestral music from several of their musicals - an excellent introduction to the ministry of these talented musicians.
